Butterfly Gold

Doral Contemporary Art Museum group exhibition at Pinecrest Gardens
Miami, FL

These artworks are part of an ongoing series that appropriates visual motifs I observed while growing up in suburban America. My mom’s death and the subsequent sale of my childhood home made clear to me how tender personal histories can be held within the most ordinary things. Mass market objects carry an emotional charge that is depicted in this series of works on paper.

In the overlapping, multiplying, and blurring of graphic symbols within layers of paint, I reference dinner plate patterns BMX tire tracks, and sportswear logos in a burst of activity more aligned with Miami, the city where I lived for most of my adult life.

Curated by Carola Bravo and Marcelo Llobel, the exhibition features artists, designers, and architects who reflect on how their practices engage with and respond to the environment.
